16-month-old girl is latest case that happened in Terengganu
KUALA TERENGGANU: A 16-month-old girl is the latest child to die after allegedly being left inside a car.
The incident happened at a public university in Kuala Nerus district on Tuesday.
Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Abd Rahim Md Din said police received a report about the toddler who was brought to the university’s student health centre at about 4.30pm on Tuesday.
“A post-mortem was conducted at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah last night.
“The police are awaiting the report to find out the cause of death,” he said when contacted by BK yesterday.
ACP Abd Rahim said initial investigation revealed that the incident occurred after the child’s father had forgotten to drop off his daughter at the university’s daycare centre in the morning.
An investigation paper was opened under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001.
On Oct 5, an eight-month-old girl died after being left in a car for several hours at the parking lot of Hospital Chanselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM in Kuala Lumpur.
According to the police, investigations revealed that at around 7.20am that day, the victim’s mother, a doctor at the hospital, had placed her daughter in the rear passenger seat to send her to a nursery.
However, the mother did not drop off the child and went straight to work under the assumption that her daughter had already been sent to the nursery.
The case is being investigated under the Child Act 2001 for negligence.
On Feb 17, 2020, a nine-month-old girl reportedly died of heatstroke after being left strapped in her child seat in the back of a multipurpose vehicle for four hours at the Tun Abdul Razak complex in Indera Mahkota, Pahang.
The child was rushed to the Indera Mahkota health clinic but was pronounced dead.
The police said the victim’s father had found her lying motionless in the vehicle after he returned from lunch.
