Datuk Christina Liew has called on departments and agencies under her ministry to show integrity when serving the people.
The Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister said employees must comply with all regulations, service circulars, guidelines and procedures as well as operational standards.
She said integrity in public service was not only about staying away from corrupt practices but also compliance with work systems and procedures.
It covers all aspects of work culture such as performing tasks with full commitment, optimal use of working time and maintaining harmonious working relationships.
“The government has increased efforts to combat corruption and ensure that the public service is filled with civil servants of integrity who must ensure the delivery of government services and prioritise the interests of the people,” Liew said at the launch of Organisational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) in conjunction with Integrity Week 2023.
Entities under the ministry are Sabah Tourism Board (STB), Sabah Parks, Sabah Wildlife Department, Sabah Cultural Board, Sabah Museum Department and Environment Protection Department.
Liew said the OACP, containing a five-year strategic plan, was an effective mechanism to deal with issues of misconduct and corruption.
“The National Anti-Corruption Plan (2019-2023) reflects the high hopes of the people for a corruption-free country that practises transparency, accountability and integrity.”
She said the initiative to launch the OACP for departments and agencies under her ministry started this year through the ministry-level anti-corruption committee led by its permanent secretary Datuk Mohd Yusrie Abdullah.
At the launch, civil servants recited the corruption-free pledge to emphasise and increase their commitment to avoid abuse of power, especially corruption.
Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) assistant commissioner Hasmani Hassan, who represented the Sabah MACC director, delivered a talk on anti-corruption.
