State polls: Chow will serve full term as Penang CM if re-elected, says Loke

GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow will serve the full term as Chief Minister if he gets re-elected in the upcoming state elections, says DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

Loke said Chow must be reelected as Padang Kota state assemblyman first.

“Then, when the state government is formed, Chow will be named the Chief Minister.

“We will then provide Chow with the support to serve as Chief Minister for the full term,” he said.

Loke said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Han Chiang University College of Communication’s new building.

Also present were Penang Han Chiang Associated Chinese Schools Association board of directors executive advisor Tan Sri Tan Kok Ping, chairman Datuk Seri Ooi Soo Hing, and advisor Datuk Seri Choot Ewe Seng.

Deputy Finance Minister II Steven Sim, Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying, and DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng were also present.

Loke was responding to whether Chow would be overthrown at the next party election.

The media asked the question as rumours abound about a plan to remove Chow in the next party election.

“Whose plan? Don’t listen to allegations circulated by people who didn’t get picked to contest in the state elections.

“I urged Penangites not to be influenced by such baseless allegations.

“I represent the views of the party, not anybody else. And I firmly state that Chow will serve as the Chief Minister for the full term,” Loke added.

Meanwhile, Ooi said the RM70mil new Han Chiang University College building would comprise teaching buildings, administrative structures, and dormitories.

“We have successfully raised approximately RM45mil, and we now seek the wholehearted support of the community to help us secure the remaining funds to realise our shared vision fully.

“Upon the completion of the new University College Building, the Han Chiang’s Three Institutions, currently accommodating over 4,000 students, will have the capacity for at least 7,000 students,” he added.
