Malaysian Pharmacy Students Association (MyPSA) visited two nursing homes in Kajang, Selangor, as part of its community service project on health awareness.
The MyPSA Pharmcaring Nursing Home Visitation 2024 initiative was led by MyPSA project office and MyPSA public health office alongside Big and Caring pharmacies.
The aim was to raise awareness about the “three highs” – high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar – among the elderly residents and help manage these health concerns.
The day with residents of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Warga Emas Sungai Chua and Pusat Jagaan Rumah Love and Care Kajang began with gentle morning exercises, fostering a positive and uplifting environment.

This enhanced the residents’ well-being and mobility, and allowed committee members to build connections with the old folk.
The core of the event was health talk and health screening sessions, where MyPSA members facilitated interactive discussions with the elderly folk about their condition, providing a platform for residents to address their health concerns.
The team conducted health screening for various conditions, including blood pressure, blood glucose and medication reviews.
These health assessments are critical for early identification and management of potential health issues in the elderly, ensuring they receive appropriate and timely care.
The day continued with a communal vegetarian lunch, followed by interactive games and in-depth conversations.
The residents’ faces brightened as they engaged fully with the students, imparting wisdom and experience to the younger generation.
A highlight of the event was a performance by MyPSA members, which captivated the elders and was met with enthusiastic applause.
The atmosphere throughout the visit was filled with warmth and camaraderie, as both students and residents enjoyed meaningful exchanges.
Emotions ran high with moments of laughter and tears, highlighting the deep connections already formed between the students and the nursing homes’ residents.
The day ended with a group photo, after which the students departed carrying a sense of accomplishment and newfound empathy for the elderly.
In a statement, MyPSA extended their appreciation to sponsors, saying their support underscored the critical role that community involvement played in enhancing the lives of nursing home residents.
“We encourage the public to visit or donate to these nursing homes whenever possible.
“Your time and contributions can bring joy and comfort to the elderly, ensuring our elderly community members feel valued and cherished,” said the organisers.
