‘Toll plazas when entering SUKE provided for under agreement’

TOLL plazas erected when entering Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) in Alam Damai, Cheras, are in line with the concession agreement, says Projek Lintasan Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Sdn Bhd (Prolintas).

In a statement, the concessionaire for SUKE said all the toll plazas were part of Alam Damai Interchange as specified in the agreement.

“It is done based on studies conducted by engineers and consultants to disperse traffic effectively in the targeted areas.

“The Alam Damai Interchange is built to facilitate direct access to the highway for residents in that area towards Sri Petaling and Ulu Kelang.

“Users, however, still have the option of using existing roads to access SUKE through other ramps,” it said.

Prolintas’ statement was in response to StarMetro’s report on Oct 19, “Cheras residents upset about new SUKE toll plazas”.

Alam Damai residents had said the open toll system on the highway, which required users to pay a fixed amount upon entering the toll plaza, should have been built at certain locations along the highway and not at the entrances.

Prolintas said the open toll system required users to pay toll charges when entering the highway, irrespective of the distance travelled.

“The optimal toll rate has been calculated and agreed upon by the authority concerned.

“SUKE has conducted multiple engagement sessions with relevant parties involved in the construction of its structures at Alam Damai, including local residents and authorities such as the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA), Public Works Department and local council.

“A dialogue on this matter also took place with Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on July 25, 2023.

“During this dialogue, the rationale for the chosen location was conveyed and discussed, with the participation of MHA,” Prolintas said.
