Win-win for recruiters and jobseekers

KUALA LUMPUR: Recruiters from some of the top companies in the country walked away with not only new potential hires but also a better insight into the job market at the myStarJob Fair 2023.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd talent hunter Effendy Hamdan said that the fair was an ideal platform for both employers and jobseekers to connect with each other.

“Candidates get to understand us and the opportunities we provide while we as recruiters get a better understanding on the type of information jobseekers prioritise. This allows us to not only improve on our future recruitment campaigns to better attract talent, but also indirectly expand our reach to more potential talent through candidates’ word of mouth,” he said when met at the fair.

He added that Prasarana was seeking candidates who are agile, flexible, engaged and results-driven to fill over 50 technical and non-technical positions in the organisation.

Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) human capital and organisational development manager Rusdan Hasan said the fair provided a key opportunity for IJN to recruit staff for clinical and non-clinical positions.

“IJN is also in need of non-clinical staff, which is in line with our expansion plans in the near future,” he said.

He added that skills and experience would be the priority for potential candidates. Fresh graduates with a thirst to learn can apply as training will be provided.Pengerang Refining Company and Pengerang Petrochemical Company (collectively known as PRefChem) talent management senior manager Mahmud Ishak said the fair allowed them to enhance their brand presence among jobseekers through direct interaction with candidates.

He added that over 300 resumes were received during the first day of the fair on Saturday, which PRefChem will use to better understand the current job market status when looking for potential hires.

PRefChem, which is made up of two joint ventures formed in a strategic alliance between PETRONAS and Saudi Arabia national oil company Saudi Aramco, are on the lookout for recruits with both hard and soft skills to take up positions in their technical and business fields.

Reskill Edtech Partnership manager CD Lee said jobseekers managed to get a lot of benefits from the fair.

“Not only do employers get to understand what jobseekers are looking for, jobseekers can get to understand what employers look for in candidates.

“This helps to bridge the gap in expectations between employers and jobseekers so they can create better resumes that make it easier for them to get suitable posts,” he said. The two-day myStarJob Fair 2023 that ended yesterday was held at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre (MVEC).

Visitors enjoyed free admission to the fair as they took part in various contests and activities. One of the activities was the fair’s first ever job-matching session which aimed to increase the recruitment chances of jobseekers, where they were given two minutes to pitch their capabilities to up to 12 recruiters.

Organised by the Star Media Group, the fair featured over 60 exhibitors from various industries. It was supported by Reskill Edtech as the Official Resume Clinic Partner and Sendquick as the Official Mobile Messaging Partner.

The fair’s diamond sponsor was Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia; platinum sponsors were Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd and Toyota Malaysia; while silver sponsors were FIND, Genius Development, Institut Jantung Negara and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd.
